Background
Since childhood, Susan has been passionately interested in health and natural, safe effective ways for people to regain and maintain their health. She has always been fascinated by the causes of ill health and how to make people well and strong again, to return them to good health, without side effects as is often seen with drugs.
Training
After a long career in the world of business, she decided to train as an Acupuncturist in the Five Element style at The College of Traditional Acupuncture, Leamington Spa. After completing a three year Licentiate training, she set up in practice with her student provisional licence to practice, having to complete internship and a precise number of patient case studies and supervised clinical practice in the College's clinic for a six month period. She successfully completed her six month clinical practice period and graduated with a Licentiate in Acupuncture, Five Element style, in 1994, and with an even keener passion for Chinese Medicine. Upon completion of her first three years training, she immediately knew that in addition to being in general practice, she wanted to specialise in Women's Health issues, such as gynaecology, painful periods, heavy periods, menopausal problems, male and female infertility.
Shortly after achieving her first qualification in Chinese Medicine, Susan decided to pursue a Post Graduate qualification in T.C.M. - Traditional Chinese Medicine. She commenced a further two years study in T.C.M. at The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading, completing two years of both theory and clinical studies. Since qualifying as a T.C.M. practitioner of acupuncture, she has consistently worked blending both Five Element and T.C.M. theory and treatment models, using an integrated style of practice, with a consistently high success rate of helping her patients.
Her next qualification (so far!) was a further post graduate certificate completed in 2002, qualifying her to prescribe and dispense Chinese Herbal Medicines (in Pre-Prepared form), also gained at The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading.
Susan also qualified as a Kinesiologist in 1999.
In response to numerous patients asking for Cosmetic Acupuncture, she went on to train in Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation in 2006, with Virginia Doran, a well known and highly respected expert Facial Acupuncturist based in the U.S.A.Virginia's techniques are powerful and precise and she has appeared in many magazines and on numerous American television channels. Facial Acupuncture is becoming more often requested, as women are increasingly looking for a natural, safe alternative to fillers and Botox. Some patients use Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation as an alternative to a, Botox or fillers, others use it to prolong and maintain their good looks and to postpone their face lifts by some years!
Susan has had a full and busy career, having in the past set up and run a large multi-disciplinary complementary health centre, worked as Consultant Acupuncturist to Toyota Derby and liaised with doctors and other health professionals.
Presently
Nowadays she runs two busy general practices in Ashbourne and Ripley, Derbyshire. Her approach and method of diagnosis and treatment fuses both the Five Element and the T.C.M. styles of Acupuncture, with a consistently high degree of successful results for her patients. In addition to her general practices, she specialises in women's health and in male and female infertility, regularly treating such problems as heavy periods, painful periods, menopausal problems with hot flashes, ongoing menstrual bleeding, fertility issues such as recurrent miscarriage, failure to conceive with unexplained infertility, poor sperm quality, poor sperm motility, and concurrent acupuncture support for patients receiving I.V.F. treatment.
Susan is the Continuing Development Facilitator for the East Midlands region for the British Acupuncture Council, the governing and regulatory body for professional Acupuncturists within the United Kingdom, and has a high commitment to regularly upgrading her skills, increasing and deepening her knowledge and is a great believer in reflective practice, a process of constant learning and improving.
With more than 16 years of experience in Chinese Medicine, Susan has a passion and love for Chinese Medicine that is evident to all who meet her.
